The County Leitrim Society of Boston was revived in 1994 by a
group of Leitrim exiles in the Boston area, in the aftermath of Leitrims historic
Connacht Football Championship victory. The original society had gone out of the
existence in the 1950's. We number around 200 members, and consist of natives of County
Leitrim, (a county in the North West of Ireland), people of Leitrim extraction and
anyone with an interest in Leitrim, or Ireland in general. The first event we held was
a Spring Dance in the AOH Hall in Watertown in April 1995, and we have held a Spring Dance
every year since. We also hold an annual Christmas party. Other activities have
included trips to the Catskill Mountains in New York, an Annual Golf Tournament and
hosting a stand at the Irish Cultural Festival at Stonehill College in Easton, MA each
summer. We held our first Dinner Banquet in September 2000, over 300 people attended and
it was a great success.
We ran a weekend ski trip to Sunday River ski resort, Maine, the weekend of March
23-24. 20 people went on the trip, and a great time was had by all, both on the ski slopes
and at the apres-ski scene afterwards. |
